Some folks are able to open a book, watch a video, or simply pick someone’s brain in order to start a new endeavor. They seem to have what I refer to as a “nose” for whatever they set their mind to. A natural ability if you will.
I have never been one of those people.
I am like the made scientist you see in movies who blows up his garage trying to invent “edible cardboard” or a “fusion-powered wheel chair.” I am forever stuck in the world of “trial and error.”
Whether its a sport such as golf, skiing, tennis, or a task for a home project, or building a website, I am not one of those folks. I have to dive in, make mistakes and fix them, make more mistakes, fix those, and after hours of struggle, wind up just a little smarter than I was when I started.
This website is another example of my stumbling through life attempting to learn how to do something new. In my haste to create content, I was unable to post relevant pictures and videos. (I have finally managed to post pictures of our Christmas Travels through Wyoming in the “On The Road” section.) I know it would have been better to attach them to the actual articles, which I will do from now on, but at the time, I wasn’t able to attach them. I figured I could always add them to the articles in my blog later on. Now I find I am unable to edit anything on my “Blog” and I have no cue why.
I will figure it out.
I really think the lesson is to keep pushing forward, and to keep trying new things. I recently heard ninety-something Clint Eastwood say in response to a reporter asking why he continues to make movies: “I wake up every morning and I try to not let the old man standing on the porch in.” Having never been someone who has any concern of acting their age, I found his response inspirational.
…. But this damn learning curve!
